The
Substance Abuse Traffic Offenders'
Program (SATOP) is a new statewide network of comprehensive,
accessible court options providing an appropriate community response
to alcohol and drug related driving offenses. The offender is
referred to an Offender Management Unit (OMU) such as Accredited
Traffic Offender Services which is certified by the Department
of Mental Health to conduct screenings on those referred to
SATOP.
This initial assessment screening determines what level of
services are needed, and also includes a background check into
prior DWI-BAC arrests. The screening process uses a standard
inventory of questions (Missouri Drivers Risk Inventory –
DRI) followed by an assessment with a qualified professional
and then referred to the appropriate program.
